Welcome to our Insanity !
This page started March 09, 1999
Well....... If you are reading this, You must be interested in Mopars or Darts in some way!
My wife & I decided to start this Registry after buying a 1970 Dart GT.
First off...
We did not think that Dart GT's were available after the 1969 model year, and were skeptical when we went to look at the car.
The owner was going to cut her up and make a pro-streeter out of her! Fortunately he had found a 1969 440 GTS and canceled the impending project, AND decided to sell her instead. Data code book in hand, we went to check it out! Sure enough, the required package code (A65) was on the fender tag. Along with the 1969 style emblems. We could not afford to buy the car at that time, but a friend that was with us bought her for himself......
End of story? Not quite. The car apparently did not much care for her new owner! She started puking oil out of the dipstick tube, lost drive & reverse, and generally threw a tantrum. Needless to say, He (not being mechanically inclined at all!) put her up for sale. He called us and made us an offer we couldn't refuse! That is how we ended up with our 1970 Dart GT.
Now the learning process began.
We started hearing stories of other 1970 GT's in the Seattle area! My wife and I started tracking these cars down........
One of them was/is slowly rusting away in someone's backyard (not for sale, "some day I'm gonna put a 340 in it"), one of them is semi-restored (restified?) and sporting a very nice (not original) 340 and doing well, and the third one is living a life of garaged luxury in the care of it's original owner (who is not a Mopar buff at all !).
We were also told a story by a former salesman at Bellvue Dodge, Wa.(who is now an auto appraiser) of a day in 1970 when his boss flipped his lid! It seems that they had just received a truckload (8) of FF4 green Dodge Dart GT's (ours is one of these)! All of them were identical: FF4 green, two tone Green interior, AND slant 6's to boot! At least they were auto trans cars, and had bucket seats, to his dubious relief!
How this came to happen the salesman wasn't sure, but the story goes that Mopar shipped a load of these cars to some of it's dealerships in several states. They were painted in a way to reflect each receiving states area (IE: Green to the "Evergreen State" and so on). How many were sent this way? Who knows! We hope to find out.
Not to forget the other part of this Registry; I once saw a 1971 Dart GT in Florida (about 11 years ago.....).
So far, this is all of these cars that we have found or heard about. As the other years of Dart GT's are well represented by other Registries, we felt that something needed to be done to help preserve and document these one-off sweethearts of Mother Mopar!!
Hence, this Registry is born.
We hope to serve owners and aficionados of Darts everywhere with this Registry and the information published in it.
Thanks for listening!

And now...A little about the cars;
You can verify if you have a real 1970-1971 Dart GT on the fender tag or build sheet........
Look for the option package code A65 (ALWAYS !) on a Dart Custom,
All of the GT's (so far) have 10' HD brakes and HD suspension,
340 Swinger interior package (without Rallye instrument panel),
and Dart Custom door panels.
Of all the 1970-1971 GT's we have found so far, the following items are the same;
all are LH23COR or LH23C1R,
all are 225-1bbl (E24), 904 trans (D31) on the column,
all have bucket seats (C55) in 340 Swinger pattern (H6F8),
all were made at the Windsor, Ontario Canada plant (R plant code),
all (1970) are FF4 Lime Green Metallic (no vinyl tops),and
all (1970) have a two-tone green (F4, EF8) interior.
NOTE : Since starting the registry...
Several variations have surfaced to render the above statements somewhat incorrect !!
Of course..........
All we have found (3 other of the 1970's) have been in Washington State, and were bought from the same dealership (Bellvue Dodge).
UPDATE: Since founding these Webpages .....
